gunman and they are using everything, from police cars to helicopters. a woman who lived at the avalon apartments tells news 4 that at 7:20, a woman ran door to door screaming for help saying someone was trying to shoot her. soon after, police surrounded the avalon apartment. montgomery county police say she know who their suspect is. the search to get him in custody led to partially closing the streets. police have also closed nearby exits, 270. people who live inside the af r avalon have been told to stay on the inside. those outside are not being allowed back in. >> they keep saying there may be a gentlemen with a gun squr omee in one of the garages or buildings. i have to go to work. >> reporter: that garage is the center of the investigation which is still ongoing. we are told forensics will be coming out an trying to figure out what happened with possible gunshots fired. in the meantime, the search for the suspect is continuing. they have just released the apartment complex just now allowing folks to come back into the apartment complex and reopened roads here in this area. also,

impact on horse racing and animal lovers is being felt. jackie bensen joins us with more. >> reporter: when steve clark saw fire he did what many people do almost automatically these days, he pulled out his cell phone to take pictures. that phone record ad chaotic scene and heroic rescue. this couple were heading home when they saw fire. >> the horse barn is on fire. >> reporter: one barn was engulfed in flames which spread to a second barn and threatened a third. amber is a life long rider and horse lover. >> it was difficult. we're with unfamiliar horses that were scared doet. >> reporter: it was 4:00 a.m. and so dark rescuers used cell phones to see inside the third barn which was filling up with smoke. >> this whole thing is going to flash. we need to get out of here. >> any halters you can find. >> reporter: when the flames were extinguished fire officials announced the terrible toll, more than two dozen racehorses lost their lives. >> unfortunately, this fire had a big start on us. when we arrived we had fire blowing maybe 30 to 40 feet out of the roof of the barns.

that tell us they're not likely to vote, they actually approve of the president's job with 75% approval rating. these are minorities and young voters. they have no interest in this election, if they get interested, they could close that gap. >> how do you get them interested? >> look, that's what the president's trying to do. here's what's odd. turnout goes up, people get enthusiastic about voting when they're unhappy. this small slice of voters, it's only 10% of the electorate, they're happy with the president, they're happy with democrats so they don't see a reason to get off their keisters and go out and vote right now. maybe that will change, but i'll be honest, our pollsters tell us it's very unlikely. >> let's take a look at who voters want to control congress. and the poll shows there's a tie, 43% of all responders would like to see democrats hold congress, 43% would like to see republicans gain control of congress. but when you boil that down to likely voters, the republicans have a 9 point advantage. >> let's boil that down to actually house seats, a nine point advantage, democ

chilly, near 50 there. high pressure over the region giving us plenty of sunshine today and a southerly breeze should warm us into the upper 80s by mid afternoon. not very humid. tomorrow, partly cloudy, midday clouds might produce a passing shower and blustery afternoon wind and cooler weather thursday and friday as the sun returns. ashley, how's the tuesday traffic now? >> i come bearing good news out of virginia. the beltway is wide open heading up towards 50 and 66. along 95, you do have company as you make your way leaving the prince william parkway towards route 1 seems to be the worse of it. this is the pace and the headlights may throw you off, they are at the posted speed limit there's a lot of drivers there. 270 southbound is starting to stack up, not terrible but definitely slow from 109 to the truck scales and after that, no problems. around the beltway, we are rolling problem free right now at the posted speed limit. no big problems there, you are flying, of course at the speed limit. craig and eun, back to you. >> ashley, thank you. be prepared for pay messy comm
